Pick of the Ads this morning is this for Miniature Jack Russell Puppies - I am a big dog lover - coincidentally a good friend has an expectant bitch at home - they are Pomeranian, cross Chihuahua cross Jack Russell.  AKA Handbag Dogs!

Whilst I generally like big dogs, I have recently fallen in love with a Chihuahua which, for me, are out of reach with the more "Designer Handbag Dog" price tag.  The advantage of a cross breed is price and health.  They are not susceptible to the in bred genetic medical issues and tend to be less highly strung.  

I take dog ownership seriously - its the same commitment as having a child so for that reason - I won't be having one .....yet!  

Another new advert is this one for Best Online Jewellery Shop.  This had to get a mention since its an industry close to my heart & because they embedded their Youtube video in the YapYapOK Free Ads page!

Why Re-analyse Keyword Searches

I have found that trends in keyword searches are constantly changing.  In the early days of keyword analysis Free Classifieds was not as competitive as Free Ads and yielded similar results.  Ironically Free Ads is now less competitive but with a huge number of monthly searches.

This in mind you would expect that it would be easier to rank for the latter term.  Not so!  I can only think that whilst this returns less competition, the competition utilising them are well optimised and in themselves actually harder to compete with.  

Today I performed another brief analysis to see that the search term "Classifieds"  is now producing far higher numbers than either of the last 2 terms and is far less competitive. 

With this is mind I shall change my meta data and concentrate on my newest keyword.

Its important to continue to check for keywords competition and search results.  IMHO text speech has taken over and we are all getting a bit short handed in the way we approach the internet.  So this is a clear indication into why terms change in such a short space of time.

Our Twitter feed is bringing in loads of visitors to the site and are ad specific.  Ie once the ad is published and sent to Twitter with the link to the ad, then Twitter readers can access the advert direct knowing the title and price of the product offered.

Consequently all Free Classifieds not only get massive exposure but due to RSS feeds are put in front of their captive market.

This has had a huge effect on our visitors as well as creating a better sales rate for our advertisers.  Why not give us a try?

Top UK Sites

I often look to see where the YapYapOK Free Classifieds links are coming from.

Yesterday I noted that it had been listed in one of the top 10,000 .co.uk websites for 2011.  YapYapOK  is listed at number 2450.  We were also listed on a website for top UK Free Classifieds on an SEO expert blog - only 53 are listed.

Our SERP has increased as expected although we are still in the middle of SEO so we will bounce about for a little while until Google decides our new position.  Its interesting to see that we get a lot of adverts from SEO companies appearing on our website.  The reason for this is that as a Free Classifieds we get alot of exposure.  By appearing high in the search engines they can clearly see that the ads they place will be visible.  Additionally our page rank will give their site some importance and help boost the SERP for the website they are trying to promote.  

I have been reading quite a bit about link indexing and was drawn to a blog regarding gmail.  The author explains that placing links in a gmail to another gmail account means automatic indexing.

I have done this and am currently awaiting results.  Comments on the blog suggest waiting just a few hours but this has not happened in our case.

However I will persevere and report back.  Should this succeed I will post a link to the site with all the instructions.

Another blog post suggests that any posts promoting links within a blog post should be a minimum of 500 words with a low keyword anchor density. I have read about keyword density many times in my SEO research.  It seems to me that it's unlikely that Google penalises excessive links but may disregards them.  To that end I continue to link since we have not been penalised and our SERP is excellent.  

Tomorrow I will blog about some of the Free Ads that have appeared on the site.  I will use the title as anchor text to help point search results to the advert.

SEO revisited

SEO is a continuos necessity on any website.  Even when you have achieved the top spot a level of maintenance os required to keep you there.  After all other proactive web marketeers are vying for position.  The level of maintenance depends on your niche.  The less niche your site is - the more maintenance.  Age dependance in this arena cannot be relied upon.

YapYapOK Free Classifieds is currently in the middle of a large SEO campaign so SERP has dropped (normal) whilst Google assesses.  

This includes :- 

• Article writing, spinning & submission
• Link campaign - blogs, edu & gov
• Blogging - via Bogger & YapYapOK Free Classifieds blog
• Twitter
• Social Sites
• Meta data update

This is the basics of any SEO campaign.  I am unsure which of these works best but it does work.  Clearly each of these must use keyword anchor text to ensure that search engines associates the search term (keyword) with the Free Classifieds.  We use Fiverr for most of the work although any analysis & meta data is best done internally.

So watch this space.  I anticipate a rise which in turn leads to more website visitors on the YapYapOK Free Ads website.

Now with a new Adult Classifieds section.  Strictly for the over 18s.  

I am something of an SEO buff but have found this niche a little difficult to analyse.  Keywords are generally highly competitive, words like Sex however are not.  Established sites have extensive links often into the millions.  Words like Dirty Chat is not too competitive although Sex Chat is.  Some keywords do not seem to be dependent on the searches.  I always take a look to see which sites come up first in Google & take a look at their source.  Unlike other industries I have worked in these are as expected well optimised - irrelevent of the often lower competition.

So a harder niche - forgive the pun. I have worked in areas of high competition only to do further analysis to see that its not that they are well optimised, just that there are a lot of them.  Conversely many of the keywords in the Adult Industry represent low competition but the resulting sites are beautifully optimised so competing with them is incredibly difficult.

YapYapOK Free Classifieds will work as an accidental portal for now since hits on this part of our site is reasonable considering thats its only just live.  I have found that some hits are purely through visit site navigation but we have also had hits from searchers of Adult Classifieds - amazing since we appear on page 8 of Google for this term.
