Crankin' the rankin'

YapYapOK Free Classifieds Alexa Global rank 277k UK free ads 22k

Yesterdays Free Classifieds Google Ad campaign intiation was not as much as a headache as I had expected it to be.  They now have videos which teach you how to format your ad in the most dynamic way.  I have many of the usual suspects in keyword analysis but against the wishes of my husband, left out some significant demographics.  Its not through choice, but through budget.

We had always said that it would be a massive advantage to get the students on board selling on our free classified website.  Mainly because they are a little cash strapped and they have tend to spend a fair amount of time in front of a computer screen. So something had to give, Whiolst I agree there are a lot of older people on the net, (my mum can put most people to shame), they dont really compare in numbers to those in a slightly youger demo.  I really don't want us to feature on websites for saga.

If we want to really draw their attention and get them uploading free classified ads, then it may be as well to offer an incentive.  Frankly I would rather spend some of our budgets on incentives for users then on Free Classified marketing.  This is where we have something of an enigma, you see you need to spend the budgets putting the incentives where they need to be.

So I guess incentives and prizes will be put on hold for just a little while longer & promoting the FREE CLASSIFIEDS will come first.

Time to start Google ads for ning

YapYapOK Free Classifieds global Alexa rank 279k UK Free Ads Alexa 23k

I am bracing myself for some keyword analysis today.  That's not really the hard part, but  I will need to maximise traffic for a free classified site remembering to use site specific keywords that are less competitive and therefore less expensive.

I am not too concerned about this job, its implementing them after wards as part of my Google Ad campaign I am concerned with.  Its just not easy enough for the lay person to get use.  Google should take a leaf from Microsoft and do something more like Bing.  A combination of the two would be great.  The functionality of Bing with the keyword tool of Google.  That would be stunning.

Tomorrow I am hoping to get my free classified affiliation sorted out.  I have a few issue that I need to discuss with the developer prior to implementation so it may not be as straightforward as I am hoping.  I will only activate my ad campaign once the affiliation is in place to maximise viability.

My guess is that it will take 20 more days to get the rank under 200k.  I am hoping that I can speed it up with free classified affiliation as well as free classified keyword.

Perhaps my directory submissions as a Free Classified listing will have started working too, in which case we may surpass our targets very quickly.

Directory Submissions

YapYapOK Free UK Classifieds 293k global Alexa UK FREE ADS 25k

My new tool to promote the Free Classified site is directory submission. I have used a well ranked SEO company to do this for me and for very little money they submit 100 directory submissions under the classification I choose, ie free classifieds.  I also do a short description which is transposed across all the directories.

Sounds fine, except they have, in their wisdom taken the title YapYapOK and put gaps in so that it is now Yap Yap OK.  In effect its a mispell.  I am not sure how significant this will be as we are recognised as the mispel by Google ( such is the way search engines work) however it may not work as well as it could do.

Fortunately another very new, but incredibly well ranked company will do 3000 directory submissions for us for $19.99.  Apart from the obvious exposure, we are also getting a massive number of back links which must enhance our rank.  On top of that they will also write articles for only $5 each.  Bulk discounts are available.

This company went from launch to an Alexa ranking of under 100k in 44 days, so clearly they know what they are doing.  It may be considered risky using an SEO company where English is not there first language to write articles.  Their website suggests other wise.  There blogs and informative content is grammatically perfect and makes easy reading for a technical subject, ie website SEO.  Unlike my own!

I have decided to use their services and see how we do before I do any recommends.  So watch this space.

With these new SEO methods implemented I am hoping to push the FREE CLASSIFIEDS easily up the next 100k ranks.  Maybe this is optimistic on my part.  Optimism has not let me down yet.  I have also decided to start a Google Ad campaign.  I am a little wary as I have had past experience of these.  Its not as user friendly as Bing, its more expensive and its easy to break the rules which results in suspension of your Google ads account.  I will continue the one with Bing as it bought a great number of visitors in and is still a huge market.  I will this time be a little more careful over the keywords I use.  I wonder how popular Free Classifieds is against FREE UK Classifieds, or maybe Free ads, or will I do better with adverts. I can feel a headache coming on.

A fresh set of eyes needed for my keyword analysis, and today is Sunday.

SEO success

YapYapOK FREE CLASSIFIEDS global Alexa 297k UK FREE ADS 25k

I am upping the anti and working harder.  Multiple blogging as opposed to multiple blogs is the way to go.  Ie no free ad blog duplication but recreating new blogs with lots of anchor text links across the media sites.

Another favourite I have mentioned is Scribd.  I am using anchor texts within recipes.  For example recipes I have published on the Free Classified forum with an about us.
See this link for Tandoori Chicken wraps.  The advantage to a site with a forum is that you can choose anything within your skill range and write about it.  The advantage of recipes is that we seem to have a preoccupation with food, so they get read.

Fortunately my mum is a qualified chef so I learnt very early how to manipulate flavour.  As a busy working mum with a husband that wouldnt know the difference of a cooker to a washing machine, I have also learnt how to make food taste nice - quickly.

I am only 5 ft 2 (ok a little less than that) so I have to be careful with my intake.  Consequently I see little point in eating anything that is not delicious.  Why waste calories on rubbish?

So multi blogging with anchor text links, Scribd, content update - am being forced now to add more recipes to our FREE Ad site to support Scribd as well as continually improving the already stunning functionality on this Free Classifieds seems to be working.  Additionally I have auto twitter and Exactseek.com for my ad campaign.  This ad campaign is driving my hit rate up no end.  Whilst I have read rumours of robots, I am still getting a huge hit rate which would have cost much more in SEO and is worthwhile in results.

In my spare time, not that there is much of it at the moment, I am researching new ways to get ahead. I have a number of things up my sleeve regarding FREE Classified ad affiliate programs, one I am excited about so lets see if it comes off.

Clearly our SEO methods are working.  I am not sure how much quicker we could have done this with an expert on booard, but I am certain that the costs would have been prohibitive.  The good news is that I have illustrated you dont need an SEO expert or a big budget to launch a new site and get it fairly well ranked in Alexa.

We are still short of our target but this has been an excellent way to progress, it has also been a necessary way forward to highlight where we need to improve the free classified ads for all round user efficiency.

YapYapOK FREE CLASSIFIEDS still climbing, still working and so much more than just a FREE ADVERT site.

Obsessing the rank!

YapYapOK Free Classifieds Alexa Global 304k Uk Free ads 25k

Such is my obsession with rankings of UK Free Classifieds I actually check them in the middle of the night.

I click repeatedly on the search box on the Alexa website until it has yielded to my demands with some upward momentum.  Sometimes this happens very early in the day making it a welcome report on my daily blog.  The last couple of days have left me waiting until the end to see any movement.

My impatience leads me to look at other sites whose rankings I also check to see if they have moved in case we have not progressed.  I am fairly certain that on any given day I can reel off the current Alexa ranks of at least a dozen sites which even the publisher would have trouble with.

The question is then, just how important is Alexa?

I still don't really know.  I do know that digital ad companies seem to place a lot of weight on it and demand a higher premium from  customers appearing on well ranked sites.

Clearly a well ranked site is getting more traffic, hence the ad premiums, but is that because they are well marketed or because they comply to a complex algorithym?

My guess is that its a little of everything, and guessing I am.  Since I create a huge number of anchor text links every day, update my web site content every day, Tweet every day and receive several hundred unique visitors every day, I think I've covered all bases.

Should anyone have an inkling of why else we care about our rankings ( surely if we are getting the visitors it doesn't much matter) then please let me know!
Mad that I am obsessed with something whose importance passes me by.  I can only say that I am driven by reaching my goal, not the prize at the end of it. Our UK Free Classifieds is 200k off target for this year.  If anyone wants to help drive our ranking just click on this link for FREE ADS.

Spamming Anchors

YapYapOK Free UK Classifieds Global Alexa 310,292, UK Free Ads, UK rank 25k

Still rocking in the UK but this free classifieds is driving ever upwards worldwide.

One of the Alexa "cheats" I am using is regarding the toolbar.  Since those using the toolbar will be over represented in the industry whilst highly under rated by internet users, then it is possibly safe to say that it is important to get some representation with Alexa and download the toolbar with your site saved as the home page.  Better still get a few friends to do it too.

That makes sense except, I have installed the Alexa code on this UK Free Classified.  Surely then the site can be monitored without Alexa toolbars in place.  I dont know.  However I am not prepared to take any chances.  So far we have a total of 8 computers all pertaining to have Alexa downloaded with our Free Ad site saved as the homepage.

As previously mentioned I am now writing several different blogs with different text & anchor text.  I am blatantly doing this in Ning, although I am still careful not to include too much in the same sentence, or so that it doesn't make sense.  No point getting penalties from the search engines.  Ning will be charging as from July, so I will not be using it to promote our FREE Ads anymore.  Untill then I will spam it with anchors.

I have read that Google will only acknowledge 2 back links to 1 website  from one page anyway.  I doubt that you are penalised for more, otherwise the UK Classifieds would not be climbing so well.  More likely that they have a line of code sayiong to ignore more than 2.  So again I am not taking any chances, as is clear here.

Off to spam Ning.

One way linking

YapYapOK UK FREE Classifieds Global Alexa rank 317,479 -  Free Ads UK rank 25k

I forgot to mention that I have also opted for one way links via a third party.  Yes I know budgets are tight but I am simply not set up to manually submit 100's of links.  Frankly it would take too long & my time is more valuable.

For the sake of $14.99 each month I can have 100 one way links with a full description  (which I wrote), pointing to the best UK Free Classifieds.  There is no translation or communication issues as its all done clearly by email.

Certainly the workforce presumable in Ahmedabad or Bangalore will be grateful for the extra work which helps prop up their economy.  I hope that does not sound patronising.  I am stating a fact.  When I went to India, the average monthly pay was £10.  The resourcefulness and commitment to work illustrates what we can do when our choices are compromised.  Consequently they are now thriving against the tide of the economic catastrophe which has impacted so many of us.  We could learn from this maybe?

I also wrote a couple of separate blogs for MySpace & another for Ning.  So I am still hopeful for good things in Alexa for this UK Free Ads site.  The one for Ning was blatant anchor text links, but since I only have one friend on the network, then no one will be reading it.  I also managed another recipe with an about us bit on Scribd ( which I love) as well as my programming stint with the developer.

Our Free Classifieds site takes privacy seriously.  Due to requests, we now have the user name displayed against the Free Ad as opposed to the name.  Originally we wanted to show some transparency to the buyer and instill confidence.  We have another way of doing this now.  The changes, all being well will not be implemted for a couple of weeks as we have some other housekeeping issues to attend to.  Many small improvements, which are not always obvious continue to go ahead.  They may not always have the wow factor but they do enhance the users experience.
