Source code & Positioning with Keyword links

YapYapOK Free Classifieds 230k Alexa Page 1 Google

I am currently working on another project and needed reminding of the SEO data for the Title, content and meta name.

In brief the Title should not exceed 80 characters only
The content/ description should be up to 250 characters , this is the length that can be dispalyed in many search engines to draw the customers eye
The meta keywords is subjective.  Many say that they should not exceed 250 characters or should not be crammed with keywords.  However many website owners simply place all their keywords in here since common sense says that the search engines will acknowleged it as long as this is matched on the content of the website.  As a rule try not to spam, repeat keywords & check out competitors who place well.  This should be give some indication of the success of the use of data.  Just check their page to see that it is mirrored in the content.
This could be the small difference in positioning well.

The first words on the title and the content should be the main keywords.  So for YapYapOK it comes up as Free Classifieds. then UK Free Ads and so on.  As a guide look at the source code of the competitors.

Try to not repeat the words more than twice in the title as this may be seen as spamming.  Of course identifying keywords is a fairly large task although you can get someone to do it on Fiverr for you.  They should check site, do a thorough keyword analysis and get back to you.  Clearly if you have a niche such as Plumber in Brighton then Plumber is not going to do it. Someone searching for a plumber in Brighton is unlikely to be as vague as to search for plumber.  More than likely they will look for a location and this is where you can capitalise on the market.

Since plumber in Brighton is unlikely to be very competitive it should be relatively easy to corner the target market than say if you were appealing to a global market.  Clearly the number of searches will be limited but you should stand a chance of being within the top in Google with very little effort and reach only the customers you are looking to reach anyway.

More generic searches are much harder to find.  However placing ads and links wherever possible, including Free Classifieds sites increases the chances of promoting the websites through the search engines, so whilst you may or may not sell through these sites they all help with the SEO.  It is therefore vital to get links on as many Free Directories, websites, social bookmarks etc.  they all help your site to be acknowledged by the search engines.

Yesterday, for example, I was searching for Foot Readers.  The first 3 pages of Google were fairly well monotonised by just one Foot Reader via various articles and adverts - all free!  If I was looking for a Foot Reader it would have been difficult to miss her.  Similarly the Foot Astro Reader who advertised on YapYapOK Free Classifieds also came up in the first 3 pages with very little room for anyone else.
